No, no.
Having a religion is a way to explain things.
What will happen in the afterlife, for example. Almost every religion has some kind of an afterlife.
It's just that eternal damnation/reward is kind of.... stupid. Actually, REALLY stupid. In my opinion.

Having a God isn't really someway to explain things, its more of, there's always someone who loves you and is waiting for you when you die to come to heaven. This reason makes religion even more pathetic sounding becasue it makes everyone look so insecure. "My mommy doesnt love me so i need to fabricate an all knowing being that loves me." Thats a bit rediculous. Its almost as if humanity is 12 and is just learning to get rid of its imaginary friend. War over religion is just killing each other over who has the best imainary friend. Cant remember whos said it though.

Having a God isn't really someway to explain things, its more of, there's always someone who loves you and is waiting for you when you die to come to heaven. Karl Marx once said in one of his more memorable quotes that religion is "an opiate of the masses." Look at the most popular religion, Christianity, and think of some of the things it teaches. 'Turn the other cheek.' 'Treat others how you wish to be treated.' 'The meek shall inherit the Earth.' That's nice in concept, but there are going to be countless people who don't follow these rules, and they're always the ones who are successful in life. And the people who believe in such things will be stepped on. It's used as a means to control the oppressed into staying oppressed, as they believe that all the courtesy they are giving to people who don't deserve it will be rewarded when they die, while the bastards of the world will be "cast into the fiery pits of Hell." That's a rather large gamble for a life in which you allow people to take advantage of you at every turn. The notion that God is simply testing us in this mortal life to love everyone is not only a demeaning one, but if it were true it proves just how manipulative and twisted such a being is. Would you really want to worship something that feels the need to test your faith over and over?

Dear tobi(not adding sama cuz your a loser), Not to be nit picky but its spelled 'pagAn' not 'pagEn' pr 'pagOn' I dont spell Jewish or Christian wrong you don't need to spell pagan or paganism wrong either... its respect. Practice it for once. sincerily, Preistess Witch B!tch ok now that is over with..... latly I have been thinking about omnipotent omnipresent beings, and I have come to the conclution they can not exist.... UNLESS they are not just 'humanoid' or 'human like'. in other words for god to actually exist in that since god or goddess would have to be everything not sit up on a cloud and see everything. The only way god can see know and be able to do anything is if god is everything and everyone there for the 3 major religions are wrong on one of their core aspects "that god is singular and is separate from earth". Now if I am correct now god can exist because god is everything and everyone, god can also exist because now god doesn't go against nature or science it is nature and science. so the only way peace will happen in the religion/science war is for these to to come together. edit: another problem with humans is the need to put god in to a box. god is male, white, old and on top of a cloud. We ask "can god make a object that not even he himself can move?" and then we get in to this whole discussion. One of my teachers said "No god can not he can only do things do-able" but then who decides do-able? I say yes god can make a object that he himself can not move, then if he wanted to move it all he has to do is make it move able again. its not that tough of a question. you can put god in a box. I hope some one stayed with me.. lmao Yes but i can't spell right. Jew is easy, and i call them Christ lovers. So my bad. Anyway, i'm going with Neo-Pagan. So....1 god like thing,m he did some stuff, then left so we could do whatever. Thats the basic plot. By the way, that quote is my fav. of all time way before this site was even made.

As a basic definition, religion came into being to explain the unexplainable.
Alas, why Taoism has lost its populairty in Japan, a lot of the things it believe in have scientific explanations.

Living life for yourself to the fullest extent of enjoyment that you possibly can, duh.
That type of religion is a crutch for the weak-minded.

Actually, I'll have to side with Poss in that religion is made to explain the inexplicable, because that's exactly what the basis of a religion is, in truth.

It is ninja, but also to make you feel like living your crapy life.
Lifes a *female dog*, then you die and go to heaven which is great sounds better then life sucks, then you die, then your gone.

Though the demographics of going to heaven are only 12000 people, evar in the world.
your chances are mathematically impossible.
